What are Probate Receipts and Releases?

Probate receipts and Releases are common when the executor, executrix, administrator, or administratrix of an estate will require that the beneficiary, devisee, or heir who receives a distribution from the deceased person’s estate sign and deliver (a) their written acknowledgment that they have received the distribution (the receipt), and (b) their written release of the executor, executrix, administrator, or administratrix of an estate for their acts in representing the estate (the release).
