Directions to the Harris County Probate Courts

I'm unfamiliar with downtown Houston. Where are the Harris County Probate Courts?

A question I'm often asked goes something like this, "Will my Probate Court hearing take place in the same place where my local Justice of the Peace conducts its court?" Unfortunately the answer is no. In Harris County we have four Probate Courts and they are all located in the Harris County Civil Justice Building (which is also known as the Harris County Civil Courthouse, located at 201 Caroline Street in downtown Houston). A photograph of this visually appealing, yet imposing, building is located on this page. And if you look carefully at the photograph you will see a convenient parking garage located immediately behind the Harris County Civil Justice Building (located across the street at 1401 Congress Street, at the corner of Congress Street and Austin Street). This parking garage offers underground access to the Harris County Civil Justice Building through a connecting tunnel (which is especially convenient in inclement weather). And there are also numerous nearby parking lots if you prefer not to use a multi-story parking garage.

Currently, Probate Court No. 1 and Probate Court No. 2 are both located on the 6th floor, while Probate Court No. 3 and Probate Court No. 4 are both located on the 7th floor. The Harris County Clerk's Office which deals with probate matters is currently located on the 8th floor.
